Oracle SQL - Wednesday 14th July 04

A letter came through my door the other day. It asked if, I wanted to be in a group of students trilling a Oracle programing course. In which i will be taught SQL in the first year, and Java in the second year. This struck me as strange. Firstly, because my school is rubbish when it comes to IT. For example they are teaching students, to create websites, in Microsoft Word. Secondly, because this could actually be a worthwhile course, that i could use in the future. Most stuff my school will ever teach me in IT, I either already know, or, is very basic stuff. (Like using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Ben Hammersley's rss Tools - Friday 9th July 04

Ben Hammersley, has created a couple of widgets, to convert "things", into rss format, for peoples convenience.Example 1: Google to RSS. A system, so you, can check the top ten results from google, for a search request. For example, if you wanted to know where your site came, when searching for your name. The feed would get the current top 10 every time you load your rss aggregator. Example 2: xhtml validator to RSS. A system, which will validate a page. If the page has no errors, the feed comes back blank, otherwise, it will have a list of the errors.

Meeting in London - Friday 9th July 04

Ok unlike some of Marks meets, this one wasn't to discus world domination. Instead we had a good day, talking, and looking at, art in the Saatchi Gallery and Tate Modern. All in all a nice person, just as cool as i thought he would be.Me and Mark

Backend Update - Thursday 8th July 04

The backend is now allot smaller (less php). Comment system is up, all comments will be striped of tags, that will be replaced as html entities. Also played with the css on the links.

Daylight saving time - Tuesday 6th July 04

While converting my old blog content, to the new blog system, I found a bug with php. The problem came, when trying to get a time stamp, for the days, British Summer Time starts or ends. For example, if I wanted the time-stamp for 28-March-2004, the php would give me: -3662. That is quite obviously wrong. The only way i could get around this, was to use a time 1 hour and 1 minute after midnight. Why can't it just decide which hour to go for? The one before or after the change. Stupid if you ask me.

New Backend - Sunday 4th July 04

Well you might have noticed, its all new. You now see the current month, when on the home screen. A couple of screens which are new are: View by year; View by month; View by day; View by post. Also its easier for me to update it. So, might post more often.

Browser Switch Campaign - Sunday 4th July 04

The idea: to advise common folk, to change their browser, from IE, with lots of security risks, to FireFox.

The method: a link to a page, advising IE users of their faults. However, this campaign isn't to shame people, and not to force them. But, to advise them.
