Search from the Location Bar - Saturday 18th December 04
One of the features of mozilla browsers is the location bar searching. It is very simple to set up, however, I don't really know of anyone else that has it set up. If for example, I wanted to search google for antidisinfectant. I would type in to my address bar: g antidisinfectant. If I wanted a definition I would type: d antidisinfectant. So how does it work? In my bookmarks I have a section called keywords. I have set the keyword to the letter I type before the word. If you type a keyword in to the location bar it puts whatever is after the keyword where %s appears in the location. Here is a list of keywords I have set up, the possibilities are endless tho.
| Name | Location | Keyword |
| http://www.google.com/search?q=%s | g | |
| Dictionary | http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=%s | d |
| Spell Checker | http://delete.me.uk/php/2002/spell/word.blah? | s |
| Wikipedia | http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%s | w |
| PHP Functions | http://uk.php.net/%s | p |
I find it saves a lot of time using them. It also means you have no need for that google search box that sits at the side of your location bar.',blerb='How to use your locaton bar to search your favourite sites.
