Day OneHundredEight – Television

Day OneHundredEight – Television

Kicking back watching TV. I haven't done done this in a while so its quite nice. I really wish I had more time or ideas for this project at the moment.

Day OneHundredSeven – Tunnock's

Day OneHundredSeven – Tunnock's

Today was an London office day. As a result this is a late night, trying to find something to photograph, photo. These are two Tunnock's Chocolate Caramel Wafer bars. "A bar consisting of five layers of wafer, interspersed with 4 layers of caramel" covered in milk chocolate.

Strobist: SB600, 1/16th power, through white shoot through umbrella, 1 foot from subjects, camera left. Triggered using cactus v4 trigger.

Day OneHundredSix – Lolly

Day OneHundredSix – Lolly

This lolly is one of my Christmas presents from one of my brothers. It's wonderfully modelled here by my very sexy girlfriend. We tried 113 different shots to find something that we liked and this is by far my favourite out of them.

Strobist: SB600, 1/32th power through white umbrella 1/2 meter to the left and infront of subject.

Day OneHundredFive – Ale

Day OneHundredFive – Ale

Quick and dirty shot today. Taken while out at the local pub. The hand you can see is Tom's, a friend who makes rings and other jewellery. The pint in question is a Wat Tyler from the Itchen Valley Brewery. Overall quite a nice beer.

Day OneHundredFour – Rest

Day OneHundredFour – Rest

I got a beautifully large 23 inch Dell monitor today (2048px by 1152px). I am having a bit of bother with the colour profile at the moment though. It is still miles different to my MacBook's screen even after the colour calibration. So if this photo is looking a little green or red to you I am sorry.

This is me going back to the location which I rejected here but this time with a strobe to try and brighten up the image a little.

Strobist: SB600, 1/8th power through umbrella 1.5 meters between subject and camera. 1m off the floor pointing up towards subject. Triggered with cactus v4.

Day OneHundredThree – Batteries

Day OneHundredThree – Batteries

You know those occasions when you leave your house to take a photo? You get to your location, set up your camera, sort the focus, get the lightstand + umbrella + flash all ready, go to turn the flash on. Damn! Batteries are in the charger at home!

I had a really nice photo lined up and everything. Instead I am just left with this crappy shot. At least I got a chance to crack out the strobist kit and attempt to light this properly.

Strobist: SB600, 1/32 power in to umbrella 50cm above and just a bit to the left of camera.

Day OneHundredTwo – Alone

Day OneHundredTwo – Alone

Before we start I need to point out this is a shameless copy of this photo by Chunk'd. I have wanted to copy that photo since he posted it as it requires understanding your lighting and your exposure in a controlled environment. I hope I did it justice.

I took quite a number of shots to try and get this right but still I couldn't seem to get my shoulders to sit in line with my face. This is probably as I was trying to look up at the flash which was ever so slightly off to the side. I also spent a while experimenting using an umbrella as a diffuser and shooting bare.

Strobist: SB600, fired Bare 1m above me, 1/4 power. Triggered using Cactus v4.

Day OneHundredOne – Candle

Day OneHundredOne – Candle

I went outside to grab a photo tonight but came home empty handed. So an indoor shoot had to commence.

I love candles. I love sitting watching them. There is something pure about a candle flame that is just enchanting.

Day OneHundred

Day OneHundred

100 days of picking my camera up once a day to take a photo. Who would have thought I would have got this far. I wanted to take a really impressive 'Day 100' photo, but unfortunately my ability to hold a camera straight after a pint is severally lacking. So this will have to do. A view I have seen a lot over the past 100 days.

Right, 265 days left to go. Lets see where these take me.

Day NinetyNine – Magic Shoes

Day NinetyNine – Magic Shoes

"I bet if I think about it real hard I could remember my first pair of shoes. Momma said they'd take me anywhere. She said they was my magic shoes." – Forrest Gump

These are my new magic shoes. They came yesterday after getting lost in the ParcelForce black hole for a week (48 hour delivery shouldn't take 9 days). I don't often get new shoes so when I do its quite the occasion.

I saw a shot similar to this on flickr months back when I first started my 365. I hope I did it justice in its recreation, if only I could locate the photo again.

Strobist: SB600, 1/8th power, fired through a homemade snoot 21cm in length, 1.5m up, 1 foot towards the camera from subject. Triggered via cactus v4.

Day NinetyEight – Walkin'

Day NinetyEight – Walkin'

"There she was just a walkin' down the street" – If you don't get the reference go and educate yourself. I was told that I look like I am checking out a girl that has just walked past me in this shot, which considering the street was empty...

Just ran out for a quick shot tonight, after spending a day watching films and generally relaxing. I probably should have tried something a little more complicated, but hey, I am still working out the ins and outs of this new strobist kit.

Strobist: SB600, 1//8th power into shoot through umbrella 2 foot from me to camera's left. Triggered via cactus v4.

Day NinetySeven – Umbrella

Day NinetySeven – Umbrella

Today Asha met my lighting umbrella. It was love at first sight. I was trying to get a nice shot of Asha with a street in the background, but she just wanted to hug the umbrella. What's a guy to do huh?

Strobist: SB600, 1/8th power, catcus v4, fired into the umbrella. You can probably see the rest.

Day NinetySix – Geek

Day NinetySix – Geek

I am a massive geek and proud of it!

Sorry just wanted to get that out there. My umbrella came today which completes my "cheap as chips" strobist kit. This is one of the first shots that I have taken with it and so far, in the words of McDonalds, "I'm lovin' it".

This photo is one of a set of 70 of me pulling different facial expressions at the camera. They would probably make a really great flip book series. Unfortunately chances are no one else will ever see them.

Strobist: SB600 fired in to a shoot through umbrella 1 meter camera right subject 1.5 meters infront of the camera. 1/8th power triggered with cactus v4's.

2

Day NinetyFive – Jack Frost

Day NinetyFive – Jack Frost

This is a 6 1/2 foot snowman that I built in my garden today. I have been trying to build a sizeable snowman for a couple of weeks and today the snow was finally in a state that I could make something bigger than a waist height.

I also got round to building a cardboard snoot for my flash out of a Toblerone box. This photo is the cumulation of both of those items: my snowman selectively lit using my cardboard snoot.

Strobist: SB600, 1/32 power, 2 meters from subject, 1m camera right. Triggered with cactus v4. Directed with DIY camera snoot.

Day NinetyFour – Control

Day NinetyFour – Control

I thought about going out tonight to get an outdoor photo but decided to grab one inside instead. This is me standing in the middle of my rather messy bedroom, it is amazing what a little cropping and over exposure can do. I found it quite hard to get the exposure right because of all the reflections going around the room, and even then I modified it a fair amount post-production.

There was a little strobist work going on here: SB600 1/8th power, bare, 1m to my left, head hight, triggered with cactus v4. There was a fair amount of reflection on my right side reflected of the wall and ceiling.
